Electrical Design Engineer
Cambridge
Up to £60,000 + benefits
This Electrical Design Engineer role will be working with an innovative engineering business developing advanced industrial systems used in high-performance manufacturing environments. Their technology helps customers reduce energy consumption, improve process reliability and introduce cutting-edge production methods across sectors including food & beverage and advanced composites.
Due to continued growth and new product development, they are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join the team developing next-generation systems.
The Role: Electrical Design Engineer
This is a broad and hands-on engineering role combining concept electrical design, problem-solving, system development and customer interaction. You’ll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle from concept control panel design through to build support, fault finding, commissioning and ongoing product improvement.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Designing electrical schematics for control panels used for industrial equipment
- Producing electrical schematics for HV and LV systems, documentation and revision-controlled design packs
- Supporting the development of next-generation products & systems
- Working closely with production, suppliers and subcontract manufacturers during system builds
- Diagnosing faults and supporting existing systems in the field – creating change requests and ECNs
- Assisting with commissioning activities including FAT and SAT & quality sign off
- Collaborating with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams to deliver robust technical solutions
Knowledge Required: Electrical Design Engineer
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
- Good industry experience in electrical schematics and control panel design
- Knowledge of high voltage systems would be ideal (1500V DC) but Low voltage with the aptitude to learn is suitable
- Passion for innovation and creativity, confidence & curiosity to challenge the status-quo to drive new product development
- Solid electrical design capability with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
- Good working knowledge of Electrical design software – EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, WSCAD etc
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Good documentation, revision control and technical communication skills
- Comfortable working directly with customers, suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams
- Understanding of PLC/HMI development and troubleshooting beneficial
