Our client is an innovative engineering and technology organisation looking for an Electrical Design & Controls Engineer to join its experienced team.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role spanning electrical design, control systems, PLC programming, machine builds, testing and commissioning. You’ll have the opportunity to follow projects from initial design through to installation, while building your expertise across sophisticated industrial automation technologies.

You’ll get the opportunity to:
- Take ownership of electrical and control system design, including safety systems and component specification.
- Create electrical schematics, panel layouts, terminal plans and wiring designs using AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical CAD software.
- Develop technical specifications, process flow diagrams and control system programming architectures.
- Build your experience with PLC and controls programming for industrial automation systems.
- Collaborate closely with Design and Applications Engineers to turn project requirements into working solutions.
- Get involved with panel wiring, electrical fitting and machine assembly when projects need hands-on engineering input.
- Carry out electrical testing and troubleshoot challenges during machine builds.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
- Commission and integrate new systems at customer sites in the UK and internationally.
- Maintain, develop and support existing control systems, giving you exposure to the full engineering lifecycle.

About You
This opportunity could suit an Electrical Design Engineer, Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer or Electrical Controls Engineer who wants variety and ownership rather than being confined to one small part of the engineering process.
Our client's wishlist includes:
- Around 3+ years' industry experience.
- Around 3+ years working with AutoCAD Electrical or a comparable electrical CAD package.
- Experience designing electrical schematics and electrical panel layouts.
- A solid understanding of electrical control gear and industrial automation.
- Experience with machinery safety, whether through formal training or practical engineering projects.
- Familiarity with industrial communications such as Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, serial, OPC and IO-Link.
- A logical, methodical approach to technical problem-solving.
- Good organisation, attention to detail and confidence working towards project deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and an enjoyment of collaborative engineering.
Experience with robotics would be useful, as would a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. A full UK driving licence is also desirable due to the customer-site element of the position.
