FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the water sector for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to strengthen their engineering team at their Peterborough office, with hybrid working available.

Electrical Design Engineer Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Principal Engineer and provide high-quality electrical engineering design services across turnkey and engineering services contracts.
  • Produce cost-effective electrical design layouts that meet project specifications and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
  • Consider the whole-life cost of design solutions, including design time, materials, installation, construction and impacts on other disciplines.
  • Ensure standard engineering practices are utilised wherever possible while maintaining competitiveness and engineering quality.
  • Provide estimates and technical feedback to support the proposals department.
  • Work in accordance with established engineering procedures and processes, contributing to the continued development of the engineering department.
  • Assist with the development, monitoring and review of engineering procedures and processes.
  • Develop, update and maintain efficient procedures to support the smooth running of the engineering department.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with all other internal and external disciplines to ensure the overall design is fully integrated.
  • Maintain accurate project files and engineering records throughout the duration of contracts.
  • Support customer satisfaction by delivering technically robust, cost-effective and reliable electrical engineering solutions.
  • Assist in supervising, mentoring and developing less experienced engineering staff.
  • Support the delivery of a safe working environment and ensure electrical designs comply with relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to minimise waste and improve efficiency across departmental activities.
  • Ensure environmental considerations are incorporated into electrical design solutions.
  • Ensure all designs fully consider health, safety and environmental requirements throughout the design process.

Electrical Design Engineer Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a relevant electrical engineering discipline.
  • HND/HNC in a relevant engineering discipline will also be considered alongside appropriate experience.
  • Experience in electrical engineering design, preferably within the water and wastewater sector.
  • Good understanding of the principles of water and wastewater treatment.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Ability to rationalise designs and produce economical and effective plant layouts.
  • Broad understanding of water treatment projects and the interaction between electrical, mechanical, process engineering and project management disciplines.
  • Ability to assimilate and interpret large volumes of technical and project information.
  • Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to present proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with relevant electrical engineering design software.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring less experienced engineers would be advantageous.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution, with candidates working towards Chartered Engineer status also considered.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Relevant Engineering Master’s Degree.
  • Experience delivering electrical design solutions on large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering design teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant water sector standards, specifications and electrical design practices.
