Design Manager, Electrical Power Networks (LV to 132kV)
Most Design Manager roles are about keeping the wheels turning on someone else's business. This one isn't.
This is a rare chance to run and grow the design function at one of the UK's most established independent connection providers. LV to 132kV, contestable networks, private wire, DNO connections, the technical scope is broad and the design team already sits behind some of the biggest connection projects in the country. What's on the table now is stepping in to lead it, shape it, and build it out further.
You'd own the electrical design department end to end. That means a team of electrical engineers, civil engineers and CAD technicians reporting to you, the P&L for the department under your name, and full responsibility for design quality across everything the business puts its stamp on. NERS accreditation to maintain, IMS to evolve, KPIs to set, and a standalone earthing design team to build from scratch alongside the MD.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
