Job Title: Electrical Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Engineer to join the Industrial Fume Extraction team based in Poole. Donaldson is a technology driven company, focused on growth through innovation and a customer-centric focus. As a member of our Industrial Solutions group, you will find yourself at the center of those efforts. This position sits within the New Product Introduction (NPI) group within the Industrial Fume Extraction (IFE) business unit. This group is responsible for step change product developments, ensuring product underpins the strategy of innovative solutions to complex industrial filtration challenges.

The purpose of this role is to support the successful delivery of operational objectives by ensuring high standards of safety, quality, compliance and customer service are consistently achieved. The role plays a key part in driving efficiency, continuous improvement and effective teamwork, contributing to business performance and providing a positive experience for customers and stakeholders.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design complete commercially viable electrical systems for in development Donalson Bofa Fume extraction products
  • Develop and optimise electrical designs for historic products with a focus on operational or legislative improvements (cost down, production build, component selection and availability, compliance)
  • Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant regional and international machinery safety and electrical design standards (e.g., UL 508A, IEC 60204-1, and CE requirements).
  • Design and validate systems compliant with hazardous area regulations (e.g., ATEX, UKEX, NFPA 652/484) for applications involving combustible dusts or volatile chemical vapours
  • Produce and maintain accurate electrical schematics and Bills of Materials BoMs in readiness for procurement and manufacturing
  • Collaborate with project management to establish and align realistic project timelines and deliver on the committed schedule
  • Work with mechanical, electronics and software engineers to integrate designs within overall system architecture
  • Support all activities leading to successful on-going sale of product and new development including escalations in technical support, prototype build and test
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on industrial power distribution, EMC design principals, cable sizing and protection, electrical testing and system validation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product performance, quality, safety, reliability and manufacturing efficiency

Minimum Qualifications

  • Formal electrical qualifications (Electrical engineering, electrical & electronic engineering, Control systems engineering or a related discipline)
  • 5+ years industrial experience designing electrical systems or control panels
  • Strong understanding of electrical design standards and regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in electrical drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Altium Harness).
  • Experience using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software
  • Strong understanding of product development processes and systems engineering
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area design requirements, including ATEX and UKEX compliance.
  • Experience supporting products through the full lifecycle, from concept through to manufacture and field support
