Short Description

As the HV Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the design, operation, testing and maintenance of high-voltage electrical systems, ensuring that all equipment and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently and in line with industry standards.

Function Description

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring a strong technical background in power systems, substations and electrical distribution networks. You will work closely with project teams, contractors and operational personnel throughout the project lifecycle, from installation and commissioning through to ongoing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and oversee the performance of high-voltage electrical systems, including substations, transformers, switchgear and associated plant.
  • Produce and review technical specifications, engineering calculations, protection settings and electrical design documentation.
  • Support commissioning, testing and energization activities for new and existing electrical infrastructure.
  • Carry out fault-finding, root cause analysis and system investigations to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation, industry regulations and company procedures relating to electrical safety and operational performance.
  • Review contractor documentation and provide technical guidance during installation, maintenance and modification works.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, drawings and technical files.
  • Participate in risk assessments, permit-to-work processes and safe systems of work.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. The qualification should be equivalent to RQF Level 6 (graduate level) or above.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working within high-voltage power systems, transmission and distribution networks, substations, renewable energy facilities, or similar industrial environments.
  • A solid understanding of high-voltage equipment, protection systems, transformers, switchgear and electrical distribution networks.
  • Experience with power system analysis, fault investigations and electrical testing and commissioning activities.
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics and engineering specifications.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills, with English language proficiency to at least CEFR Level B2.

This position is classified under SOC Code 2123 (Electrical Engineers) and is a graduate-level engineering role requiring skills and qualifications consistent with RQF Level 6.

This provides an annual salary of at least £58,500, with a working pattern of 12-hour shifts, five days per week.
