Role Overview
We're looking for an experienced and driven Electrical Engineer (Automation/PLC) to join our Maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance and Facilities Manager, you'll be the site's subject matter expert for industrial automation, electrical controls and machine integration, ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of automated production equipment across our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities
- Diagnosing and resolving complex electrical and automation faults
- Optimising machine performance
- Supporting the continued commissioning of new manufacturing equipment
- Maximising equipment availability
- Improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Driving operational excellence across the factory
- Programming, modifying and optimising PLCs, HMIs and machine parameters
- Supporting machine integration projects
- Implementing control system improvements that enhance safety, reliability and productivity
- Conducting preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance activities
- Carrying out root cause investigations into recurring equipment failures
- Developing permanent engineering solutions
- Collaborating across departments to reduce reliance on external suppliers
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and future automation projects
- Maintaining PLC software and electrical documentation
- Ensuring all activities comply with health and safety legislation, machinery regulations and company procedures
- Providing technical guidance and support to maintenance technicians, engineers and production teams

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a relevant BTEC or HNC qualification, ideally supported by a degree in Electrical, Automation or a related Engineering discipline
- Proven PLC programming experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of industrial automation systems, electrical controls and machine integration
- Experience with control panels, cabling systems, servo drives, logic controllers, electrical design and fault-finding
- Knowledge of high and low voltage systems, electrical schematics and control system software development would be highly advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication abilities
- Confidence to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
