Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

At Arup, you'll be part of a collaborative and supportive environment where diverse perspectives are valued, individuality is encouraged, and everyone has the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Electrical Services Engineer to join our Building Services Engineering team in Edinburgh. As part of a team of over 20 engineers and technicians in Edinburgh and a wider North Region network of more than 100 building services professionals, you will contribute to projects across all stages of delivery, from feasibility and concept design through to construction and completion. As a Grade 4 engineer, you will take responsibility for the delivery of electrical design packages and smaller projects while supporting the development of graduate engineers and technicians.

Why Join Our Edinburgh Team?

This is an opportunity to join a growing Edinburgh MEP team delivering a wide range of projects across Scotland, the UK and beyond. Our team works closely with colleagues across the North Region and Europe, providing access to a broad range of expertise, project experiences and development opportunities.

  • You'll work on projects across the commercial, residential, education, healthcare, science and industry, sport, heritage and mixed-use sectors, helping clients deliver high-quality, sustainable and future-ready buildings.

The Role Will See You

  • Deliver electrical building services designs across a range of sectors and project stages.
  • Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers and sustainability specialists to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Lead the electrical delivery of smaller projects and work packages within larger multidisciplinary teams.
  • Undertake electrical calculations, system design and technical assessments using industry-standard software and BIM tools.
  • Support and mentor graduate engineers and apprentices.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, statutory authorities and other project stakeholders.
  • Contribute to digital engineering initiatives, including BIM, automation and data-driven design approaches.

We are committed to supporting the development of our people and providing opportunities to build rewarding careers. You will receive structured support towards Chartership through the IET, CIBSE or another relevant institution, together with access to technical training, mentoring and professional development opportunities. Whether your ambition is to develop as a technical specialist, project manager or future leader, Arup provides a clear pathway for progression supported by a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
