Job Description

Are you interested in contributing to design and construction projects that make a meaningful impact on communities and critical infrastructure? At CDM Smith, you will work across a range of electrical engineering disciplines, including complex power system design and analysis, field investigations, and construction-phase services. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on challenging projects while applying innovative technologies and advanced engineering software. We are invested in your professional growth and long-term success. CDM Smith offers flexible work options that support your needs both inside and outside of work. A sign-on bonus may be considered for the successful candidate.

As an Electrical Engineering Design Specialist 5, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop moderately to highly complex designs for electrical master plans, power distribution systems, protection and generation models, facility power systems, renewable and sustainable energy systems, and other related electrical systems.
  • Complete electrical design assignments using established methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing system components, and refining preliminary sketches.
  • Incorporate design revisions, redlines, and markups into project drawings and documentation.
  • Support power system studies and perform electrical calculations for power distribution, lighting simulations and layouts, communications, fire alarm, security, and other related systems.
  • Conduct site reviews and technical studies, as needed, to verify existing conditions and ensure designs align with project and facility requirements. Update design criteria and documentation as necessary.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to develop proposals in response to client requests for proposals. Review draft proposals for compliance with firm standards, industry best practices, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Meet with current and prospective clients to understand their existing and future electrical design needs.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior staff, supporting their professional development and long-term growth within the discipline and firm.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
