Electrical Estimator – HV Power

Location: Blackburn

Salary: Up to £80,000 DOE

Working Pattern: Office-based 4 days per week, 1 day working from home

Employment Type: Permanent

We are working with a rapidly growing Independent Connection Provider delivering electrical connections and power infrastructure projects across the UK.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Estimator to join their commercial and estimating team in Blackburn.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in HV power, substations, grid connections or ICP works, particularly candidates with experience estimating 11kV and 33kV projects.

The Role

You will be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially competitive estimates for electrical and associated civil works across power distribution, transmission and generation projects.

Projects may include substations, compounds, underground cabling, overhead lines and associated civil infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates for electrical and civil packages
  • Estimating HV, MV and LV electrical works
  • Pricing switchgear, transformers, cabling, earthing systems and associated equipment
  • Producing quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
  • Obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations
  • Producing detailed cost breakdowns and rate analyses
  • Preparing commercial and technical tender submissions
  • Producing clear inclusions, exclusions and qualifications
  • Identifying commercial and technical risks within tenders
  • Working closely with design, procurement and project delivery teams
  • Attending pre-tender meetings and site visits where required
  • Responding to client clarifications and updating estimates as projects develop
  • Supporting project teams with budgets and cost forecasting following contract award

About You

We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have:

  • A minimum of 4 years' estimating experience within the power or utilities sector
  • Strong experience estimating electrical infrastructure projects
  • Experience with 11kV and/or 33kV systems
  • Previous experience within an ICP, DNO, IDNO, HV contractor or power infrastructure business
  • Good understanding of substations, grid connections and electrical distribution
  • Experience producing BOQs, quantity take-offs and detailed cost estimates
  • Strong knowledge of utility tendering processes
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of labour, material and subcontractor costs
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Experience within renewable energy, EPC projects or higher-voltage infrastructure would also be advantageous.

Package

  • Salary up to £80,000 per annum, dependent on experience
