About the Role

A leading organisation within the UK renewable energy sector is seeking an experienced Electrical Lead to take ownership of the electrical function across the business, with a primary focus on utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects.

This is a senior leadership position, responsible for setting electrical standards, providing technical direction, and developing the company's electrical and commissioning capability. Working closely with senior leadership, project teams, subcontractors, and DNOs, you will support projects from tender and design through to construction, commissioning, and grid energisation.

You will act as the company's technical authority for electrical matters, ensuring high standards of quality, compliance, and safety while helping develop the policies, procedures, and team capability required to support continued growth and ISO accreditation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the electrical function, setting technical standards, culture, and direction across the business.
  • Recruit, mentor, and performance-manage electrical and commissioning staff as the department grows.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for electrical technical issues across the business.
  • Ensure electrical installations comply with BS 7671, CDM 2015, relevant UK legislation, and industry standards, including BESS requirements.
  • Lead DNO engagement throughout the project lifecycle, from grid connection applications and G99 through to HV energisation and post-commissioning sign-off.
  • Manage HV safety documentation, switching schedules, and safe systems of work in line with DNO requirements.
  • Coordinate and witness G99 commissioning tests with DNOs, ensuring key grid connection milestones are achieved.
  • Provide technical input into tenders, electrical scope definition, specifications, design reviews, and value engineering.
  • Review electrical designs, single-line diagrams, and subcontractor submissions to ensure they are accurate, buildable, and compliant.
  • Develop and maintain electrical policies, procedures, and working practices as part of the wider management system.
  • Support ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 accreditation, acting as the electrical subject matter expert during audits.
  • Provide technical support to site teams, including drawing reviews, procurement decisions, and resolution of technical queries.
  • Review and approve subcontractor RAMS and electrical documentation before works commence.
  • Oversee the integration and commissioning of SCADA, inverter, and monitoring systems across Solar PV and BESS projects.
  • Build and lead an in-house commissioning team, reducing reliance on subcontracted commissioning resource.
  • Plan and oversee HV and LV commissioning activities, pre-energisation checks, and BESS commissioning.
  • Review and approve electrical certification, test results, EICRs, O&M manuals, and as-built documentation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
