About us
National Grid Ventures (NGV) Interconnectors are at the heart of the UK's transition to a cleaner, more secure energy future. Through our portfolio of high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnectors, we connect the UK electricity system with neighbouring markets, supporting energy security, affordability and decarbonisation.
We're looking for an experienced Electrical Safety Lead to join our Interconnectors Operations Safety Team.
This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in shaping and governing electrical safety across some of the UK's most strategically important energy assets.
About the role
As Electrical Safety Lead, you will be the custodian of NGV Interconnectors' Electricity Safety Rules, Interconnector Safety Instructions (ISIs), and authorisation governance processes. You'll provide specialist leadership and expertise to ensure our electrical safety arrangements remain robust, compliant and effective across both operational assets and future projects.
Working closely with operational teams, contractors, engineering specialists, construction teams and senior leaders, you'll drive excellence in Safety from the System, authorisation and competence management, assurance, and continuous improvement.
The role will also lead the electrical safety governance workstream supporting any future transition of BritNed and Nemo Link towards NGV Interconnectors' Electricity Safety Rules and associated safety arrangements.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with candidates required to be based near Warwick, Kent, Portsmouth, Northumberland or Lincolnshire and willing to undertake regular travel to other Interconnector sites across the portfolio.
What you'll do
- Owning and maintaining NGV Interconnectors' Electricity Safety Rules, ISIs and associated guidance.
- Leading ISI 30 authorisation governance, including appointment and review processes for safety-critical roles.
- Supporting and conducting authorisation assessments and competence reviews.
- Designing and delivering risk-based assurance activities across electrical safety controls.
- Providing expert advice on the practical application of Electricity Safety Rules and safe systems of work.
- Working with training providers and operational teams to ensure competency and training requirements remain current and effective.
- Leading electrical safety governance activities associated with the potential transition of BritNed and Nemo Link.
- Supporting incident investigations and ensuring lessons learned are embedded into safety arrangements.
- Producing management information and reporting for Interconnectors leadership teams.
- Representing NGV Interconnectors at internal and external technical, safety and industry forums.

What you'll need
- Strong experience working within high-voltage electrical environments.
- Knowledge of Electricity Safety Rules, Safety Instructions and Safe Systems of Work.
- Experience in an authorised electrical safety role (SAP, AP, CP or equivalent).
- Understanding of transmission, distribution, HVDC or interconnector operations.
- Experience developing or implementing electrical safety procedures, standards or operational controls.
- Knowledge of authorisation, competence or training processes for safety-critical roles.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- The ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively.
- A minimum HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- A commitment to promoting a positive safety culture and continuous improvement.
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience working with HVDC interconnectors or converter station operations.
- NEBOSH, IOSH or other relevant safety qualifications.
- Experience in assurance, audit, incident investigation or competency management.
- Experience working across joint ventures, major infrastructure projects or operational energy environments.

What you'll get
A competitive salary between £61,000 - £72,000 - depending on experience.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
