We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Installation Engineer / Integration Technician to support the assembly, integration and installation of specialist equipment within containerised and deployable systems.
The successful candidate will work across a range of projects, from operational systems intended for use in demanding defence and operational environments to prototype and demonstration units used for customer engagement, trade exhibitions and marketing activities.
Based primarily at Merthyr Tydfil, the role will require periodic travel to Cambridgeshire to support integration activities, equipment installation and project delivery.
This opportunity would suit an individual who enjoys practical engineering work, takes pride in delivering high-quality installations, and is capable of working independently while effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Install, assemble and integrate electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment within containerised systems and shelters.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics and assembly instructions.
- Assemble, route, terminate and test electrical cabling and interconnection harnesses.
- Integrate electronic sub-systems, communications equipment, displays, power distribution equipment and associated hardware.
- Conduct functional testing and assist with fault diagnosis and rectification activities.
- Support the build and preparation of systems for customer demonstrations, exhibitions, trade shows and marketing events.
- Work closely with design engineers, project managers and production teams to ensure installations meet technical requirements and project schedules.
- Maintain installation records and configuration documentation.
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping, organisation and health & safety are maintained within workshop and integration environments.
- Support system upgrades, modifications and engineering change activities as required.

Qualifications
Relevant engineering qualification such as:
- HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering
- City & Guilds Technical Qualification
- Apprenticeship in an Engineering Discipline
- Military technical training
Essential skills
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve practical engineering challenges.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, wiring schematics and technical documentation.
- Confidence using hand tools, power tools and basic electrical test equipment.
- Practical fault-finding and troubleshooting capability.
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain a clean, safe and professional work area.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to engage with engineers, project managers and senior management.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between Merthyr Tydfil and Cambridgeshire on an ad hoc basis.
- Understanding of low-voltage electrical systems and power distribution.
- Familiarity with communications, networking or mission system equipment.
- Knowledge of configuration control and engineering change processes.
Experience
- Experience working in a high quality production environment relating to mechanical assembly.
- Experience working in a clean-room environment including FOD/ESD practices.
- Previous experience in an Installation Technician, Integration Technician, Electrical Technician, Engineering Technician or similar role.
- Experience wiring and interconnecting electronic and electrical equipment.
- Experience within defence, aerospace, automotive, rail or other regulated engineering sectors.
- Experience of containerised, deployable or military systems.
