Electrical Power Engineer / Electrical Design Engineer
Job Summary
You’ll design and develop space-grade electronic hardware, integrated power conversion, robust communication interfaces and embedded electronics for spacecraft subsystems. Your hardware will manage power and communication reliably in noisy environments, and survive radiation, vibration and thermal extremes. This role blends power engineering and digital/analog design across multidisciplinary space projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Power Architecture Design: Develop spacecraft power topologies and implement DC-DC converter, input protection, inrush control and high-reliability power paths for electrical propulsion engine.
- Schematic Development: Create detailed schematics for mixed-signal, power, digital and comms circuit.
- PCB Layout: High reliability PCB design include controlled-impedance routing, differential pairs, creepage/clearance, thermal efficiency and manufacturability.
- Communication Interface Design: Design and validate spacecraft communication buses including RS-485, CAN, I2C, SPI, UART and other interfaces for robust inter-module communication.
- Component Selection: Select radiation-tolerant components for controller such as FPGA or microcontroller, power and communication subsystems.
- Testing and Validation: Perform bring-up and board testing, debugging, environment testing and environment test setups.
- Documentation & Review: Produce design documentation, test plans, manufacturing package and participate in design review.
- Cross-team collaboration: Work with multiple cross teams to deliver integrated spacecraft hardware.

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong background in DC-DC converter design, switching regulators, power distribution and protection circuits.
- Experience with RS-485, CAN, and other robust industrial/space communication interfaces.
- Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation and hardware debugging.
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC mitigation, filtering, shielding and grounding strategies.
- Skilled with Altium, Cadence, KiCad or similar tools.
- Competent with tools such as FPGA, KiCad or OrCad.

Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of spacecraft Power Processing Units.
- Experience with FPGA or Microcontroller and firmware development (VHDL).
- Experience with radiation-tolerant components.
- Understanding of fault-tolerant architectures, redundancy and watchdog systems.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
- A Master’s degree or relevant postgraduate research in power electronics, embedded systems, or spacecraft hardware is advantageous.
