gap technical are proud to be representing this global manufacturing business in their search for a Electrical Project & Maintenance Engineer to work at their facility based near Gateshead
Performance Objectives
Production Line Installation & Project Delivery
- Take responsibility for electrical engineering activities associated with the installation of the new production line.
- Review electrical drawings, schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules and equipment specifications.
- Ensure electrical installation work is completed to the required standards, specification and project programme.
- Coordinate cable installation, containment, control panels, motors, sensors, instrumentation and associated electrical equipment.
- Liaise with machinery suppliers and OEM engineers during installation and commissioning.
- Monitor contractor progress and ensure work is completed safely and to the required quality.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during installation.
- Maintain project documentation, drawings, test certificates and records.
- Assist with project cost control and procurement of electrical equipment and spares.

- Support the electrical commissioning of the production line.
- Carry out electrical testing, inspection and fault finding.
- Verify motors, drives, sensors, safety circuits, control panels and associated equipment.
- Support PLC, HMI, VSD/inverter and automation commissioning.
- Work with OEMs and automation engineers to identify and resolve commissioning issues.
- Participate in dry runs, wet runs and production trials as required.
- Record and manage commissioning defects and ensure they are closed out.
Person Specification
Essential
- Electrical engineering qualification such as HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Proven experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience supporting the installation and commissioning of production machinery or production lines.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Experience with motors, sensors, control panels, contactors, relays and electrical distribution.
- Experience working with electrical contractors and equipment suppliers.
- Good understanding of electrical safety and safe systems of work.
- Ability to work effectively during installation, commissioning and production start-up.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable
- Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
- Experience with food production/packaging machinery.
- PLC fault-finding experience, particularly Siemens, Allen-Bradley or similar.
- Experience with VSDs/inverters and servo systems.
- Experience with automated conveyor systems.
- Experience with machinery safety systems, safety relays and safety PLCs.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Electrical Inspection & Testing qualification.
- Experience with stainless-steel equipment and washdown environments.
- Previous involvement in line relocation, expansion or new-build projects.
