Job Description

About Us

Fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars, is one of the most promising options for generating the cleaner, carbon-free energy that our world badly needs. UKAEA leads the way in realizing fusion energy, partnering with industry and research organisations to achieve ground-breaking advancements. Our goal is to bring fusion electricity to the grid by developing the power stations of tomorrow and the skilled workforce to deliver them.

About the Job

Join UKAEA as a Power Systems Engineer and apply your expertise to the development of complex power conversion systems that support cutting-edge fusion research. You will contribute to high-impact engineering projects, helping to advance technologies that are critical to the future of fusion energy. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging programmes, develop specialist knowledge, and influence innovative engineering solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver technical studies and engineering work packages for power conversion and related systems from concept through to detailed design.
  • Develop design solutions for fusion and plant systems that meet project requirements and operational needs.
  • Support projects involving critical infrastructure, including programmes with site-wide or external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice on system design, operational issues and fault-finding activities.
  • Perform engineering analysis and design calculations to evaluate and optimise technical solutions.
  • Apply appropriate engineering tools, methodologies and analysis software to support design studies.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within scope, specification and agreed budgets and schedules.
  • Maintain compliance with engineering standards, management systems, policies and safe working practices.
  • Produce technical reports, engineering documentation and technical publications where required.
  • Support the development of engineering capability by sharing specialist technical knowledge.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
