⚡ Electrical Project Engineer / Project Manager – 132kV Substations

An established and growing energy infrastructure business is looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Project Engineer / Project Manager to support the development and delivery of major electrical infrastructure projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who has worked through the FEED stage and has strong experience with 132kV substations, technical design coordination and managing external engineering consultants.
The projects are currently at FEED stage, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to get involved early and play a key role in shaping the engineering approach as the projects progress.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Leading and coordinating electrical engineering activities across projects from FEED through to delivery
- Providing technical oversight of 132kV substation design and associated electrical infrastructure
- Managing and coordinating external engineering consultants throughout the design process
- Reviewing consultant deliverables, drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports
- Challenging and providing technical feedback on engineering solutions to ensure they are robust, practical and fit for purpose
- Coordinating multidisciplinary design activities and ensuring interfaces between electrical, civil, protection, control and other disciplines are effectively managed
- Supporting project development, engineering studies and technical due diligence
- Managing engineering changes and ensuring design requirements are maintained throughout the project lifecycle
- Working closely with project managers, development teams, contractors, consultants and network stakeholders
- Monitoring engineering progress, identifying risks and ensuring technical deliverables align with project programmes
- Supporting the transition from FEED into detailed design, procurement and construction
- Ensuring engineering activities comply with relevant industry standards, grid/network requirements and applicable legislation
- Providing technical input into procurement, tender evaluations and contractor discussions where required

📈 A Role That Will Evolve With the Projects
The role is expected to evolve as the projects develop and move through their lifecycle. With the projects currently at FEED stage, the successful candidate will initially have a strong focus on engineering coordination, consultant management, design review and technical development. As the projects progress into detailed design, procurement and construction, the role will naturally broaden, providing the opportunity to take on greater project ownership, technical leadership and delivery responsibility. This makes it particularly attractive to someone who wants to grow with the projects rather than step into a narrowly defined role.
⚙️ About You
We’re looking for an experienced electrical engineer/project professional with:
- Strong experience in electrical infrastructure and substation projects
- Proven experience working on 132kV substations or comparable high-voltage infrastructure
- Strong understanding of the FEED stage, including developing, coordinating and reviewing engineering deliverables
- Experience managing external engineering consultants and holding them accountable for quality, programme and technical outputs
- Strong capability in reviewing and challenging engineering designs, drawings, specifications and technical documentation
- Experience taking projects from concept/FEED through detailed design and delivery
- Ability to coordinate multiple engineering disciplines and manage technical interfaces
- Experience working within complex energy, power, transmission, distribution or renewable energy environments
- Strong project management and stakeholder management skills
- Commercially aware, organised and able to manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders, consultants and contractors

An electrical engineering degree or equivalent technical experience would be advantageous.
