The Role: Electrical Project Engineer

The Electrical Project Engineer will act as the key technical and project coordination interface between customers, internal teams, and manufacturing facilities. The role focuses on the delivery of high-voltage electrical equipment projects (including power transformers and shunt reactors), ensuring compliance, quality, and customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

This position combines technical engineering expertise, project coordination, and customer engagement to support successful project execution and business growth in the UK.

Main Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Delivery

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical engineering projects
  • Monitor project milestones, deliverables, and technical progress
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, and engineering changes
  • Liaise with internal teams and overseas factories to ensure timely delivery

Technical Interface & Engineering Coordination

  • Act as the primary technical interface between customers and factory engineering teams
  • Translate customer specifications into clear engineering requirements
  • Ensure designs align with project specifications, standards, and manufacturability

Design Review & Technical Oversight

  • Lead or support Design Review Meetings (DRMs) with clients
  • Review and validate: General Arrangement (GA) drawings, Electrical and insulation design
  • Losses, impedance, and thermal performance
  • Identify design gaps and coordinate resolution with relevant stakeholders

Customer Technical Support

  • Provide timely, first-line technical support to customers within the UK time zone
  • Respond to technical queries to improve communication efficiency and client confidence
  • Deliver practical engineering solutions tailored to project and site requirements

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with: UK regulations and standards (e.g., BS, EN)
  • IEC standards, Client technical specifications
  • Support adherence to quality and regulatory requirements across all project phases

Documentation & Drawing Management

  • Review engineering drawings and documentation prior to client submission
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and technical completeness
  • Support preparation and review of technical reports and project documents

Technical Communication & Client Engagement

  • Clearly communicate engineering concepts, design decisions, and trade-offs
  • Participate in technical discussions, clarifications, and issue resolution
  • Support RFIs, technical queries (TQs), and design deviations

Support to Sales & Tendering

  • Provide technical input during: Tendering and bid preparation, Client meetings and presentations, Technical negotiations
  • Support the development of competitive and compliant engineering solutions

Local Engineering Capability Development

  • Contribute to building local engineering expertise within the UK team
  • Support collaboration with clients and technical stakeholders
  • Promote knowledge sharing aligned with company standards and best practices

Industry Engagement

  • Participate in relevant industry bodies and forums (e.g., CIGRE, IEC)
  • Stay informed on industry trends, standards, and innovations
  • Support Hyosung’s technical presence in the UK market

Person Specification

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience in high-voltage equipment (transformers, reactors, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles and standards
  • Experience in project engineering or technical coordination
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work in an international and cross-functional environment
