About the Role
At QinetiQ, we're building the future by shaping defence technology and innovation. As an Electrical Services Engineer within the Estates Delivery discipline (UK Defence Operations), you’ll deliver expert support across electrical and mechanical building services—featuring cutting-edge facilities at BUTEC (British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre) in Kyle of Lochalsh & Applecross.
Your Responsibilities
You’ll provide end-to-end maintenance support for critical site infrastructure, ensuring operational resilience. Key duties include:
- Maintaining electrical & mechanical plant, equipment, and systems across both sites
- Delivering planned, preventive & reactive interventions including installations and upgrades
- Prioritising the maintenance workflow based on business needs
- Forming part of the on-call maintenance rotation
- Upholding the highest health, safety & environmental (HSE) practice
- Directing and monitoring contractor performance within SLA dependencies

Essential Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Proven expertise as a Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance Engineer
- Sharpened fault-finding & diagnostic capabilities across components and systems
- Skilled in planned maintenance to SFG20 standards
- Ability to engage effectively with internal & external customers/suppliers (clinical/tactical support if on QinetiQ instruction)
- Full mastery of operational HSE standards and safe working procedures
- Understanding of Service Level Agreements (SLAs), targets, and KPIs
Qualifications (Electrical Focus)
- Industry-recognised technical qualifications: City & Guilds (Level 3), BTEC Level 3, ONC/OND or NVQ Level 3 in electrical discipline
- Valid uk driver’s licence (full, clean)

About BUTEC
British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre specialises in real-world underwater testing, advancing engineering in sonar, navigation, communications for:
- Submarines and autonomous vehicles
- Defence acquisition
- Underwater platform systems
