Backed by leading investors and Innovate UK, our highly efficient fin-driven generator system is progressing towards full-scale deployment. We are a growing engineering team building a next-generation renewable energy platform.
About the Role
As an Electrical Systems Engineer, you will support the development, integration and testing of the electrical systems that enable power generation, control, monitoring and protection across our tidal energy platform.
Working under the guidance of the Head of Electrical and Control Systems, you will contribute to electrical design activities, system integration, hardware testing and commissioning activities. This wide-ranging role is ideally suited to an early-career engineer looking to broaden their experience across power systems, controls, instrumentation and renewable energy technologies.
Electrical System Design
- Support development of low-voltage and high-voltage electrical architectures.
- Assist with electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, cable schedules and equipment layouts.
- Select electrical components including sensors, protection devices, connectors, cabling and power-distribution equipment.
- Support specification and integration of generators, power-conversion equipment and auxiliary electrical systems.

System Integration & Testing
- Participate in subsystem integration, functional testing and commissioning activities.
- Develop test procedures and support verification of electrical and control-system functionality.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical faults and root-cause analysis.
- Collect, process and document test data to support design validation.
- Physical system build support – soldering, crimping, connector building.
Controls & Instrumentation Support
- Work alongside controls engineers to integrate sensors, actuators and communication systems.
- Support commissioning of PLC-based automation and monitoring systems.
- Assist with implementation and verification of industrial communication networks.
- Contribute to fault diagnostics and system-health monitoring activities.
Engineering Documentation
- Produce and maintain electrical documentation and technical reports.
- Support engineering change management and configuration control activities.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and FMEA activities.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant safety and engineering standards.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
- Approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Understanding of LV electrical systems and awareness of HV power-system principles.
- Experience selecting and specifying electrical components and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with electrical build, testing, commissioning or integration activities.
- Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desirable
- Experience with electrification, renewable-energy, industrial automation or power-conversion projects.
- Familiarity with PLC systems and industrial communication protocols.
- Experience using electrical CAD packages.
- Experience writing software for real-time applications (PLC, Python)
- Knowledge of at least one of CANbus, RS485, Modbus etc.
- Knowledge of electrical protection systems and functional safety principles.
- Exposure to generators, drives, motors or energy-storage systems.
- Experience working in both prototype and product-development environments.
