Experienced Electrical Technicians - Barrow, Cumbria

We are recruiting experienced Electrical Technicians to join our maintenance team based in Barrow, Cumbria.

Initially a 24-month contract, working a 9-day fortnight pattern (plus holiday pay) on a PAYE basis.

The successful candidates will undertake planned and reactive electrical maintenance, investigate technical defects, and support the safe and reliable operation of plant and equipment associated with gas production, processing, and condensate storage.

This is a hands-on position within a safety-critical process environment. It requires previous oil and gas experience, a strong understanding of petrochemical plant maintenance, and current CompEx certification.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Routine and non-routine electrical maintenance on operational plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose complex technical faults affecting critical plant and identify suitable solutions to restore normal operation.
  • Undertake defect repairs in accordance with approved procedures and operational requirements.
  • Carry out Power Technician duties and, when suitably qualified, act as SAEP or REP.
  • Support the commissioning and decommissioning of plant and equipment.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and commissioning of plant modifications.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate maintenance records for operational, analytical, and audit purposes.
  • Ensure appropriate permits, isolations, and safe systems of work are in place before maintenance activities begin.
  • Supervise employees, vendors, and contractor personnel undertaking specific work activities.
  • Ensure work is completed safely and efficiently in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with Electrical, Mechanical, and Instrument Technicians, the E&I Team Lead, and operational teams.
  • Perform nominated emergency-response duties and maintain the required competencies.
  • Promote high standards of health, safety, environmental, and process-safety performance.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Demonstrable experience of petrochemical process operations or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of production or maintenance operations gained within the oil and gas industry.
  • Current CompEx certification.
  • A BTEC Ordinary Certificate, ONC, or equivalent qualification in an appropriate electrical or engineering discipline.
  • A sound understanding of electrical engineering and maintenance principles.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing faults on operational process plant.
  • Good knowledge of permit-to-work systems, electrical isolations, and safe working procedures.
  • A thorough understanding of the hazards associated with operating within a safety-critical process environment.
  • The ability to prepare clear technical reports and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with operations, maintenance teams, and external contractors.

  • HV electrical experience or an existing HV authorization.
  • Previous experience operating as a SAEP, REP, or equivalent authorized electrical person.
  • Experience undertaking Power Technician duties.
  • Commissioning, decommissioning, and plant-modification experience.
  • Experience supervising employees, vendors, or contractors in a regulated operational environment.
  • Previous involvement in site emergency-response arrangements.

Additional Information

Due to the nature of the work, candidates will need to be able to obtain the relevant background checks and security clearance if required.
