Job Description: Electrical Test Engineer (Automotive)
Role: Electrical Test Engineer Location: Coventry (onsite: 2-3 days per week) Security: Clearable Experience Level: Mid-level Contract Type: Permanent
You will join ALTEN’s Coventry team, contributing to cutting-edge development and validation within the automotive sector. Your focus will be on the testing and validation of advanced electrical and battery systems, underpinning electrified powertrain technologies. Through hands-on testing, fault investigation, and data analysis, you will play a vital role in delivering high-performance engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support testing and validation of electrical and battery systems across development and validation phases
- Develop, execute, and optimise test procedures and validation activities
- Monitor, analyse, and interpret test data, identifying faults and trends
- Lead battery fault-finding and root cause investigations
- Coordinate testing activities with engineering and operational teams
- Produce technical reports and test documentation
- Support integration and commissioning of test equipment and instrumentation
- Ensure testing adheres to quality and safety standards

Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in electrical test engineering within automotive or electrification environments
- Technical knowledge of battery systems, EV powertrains, or electrical propulsion systems
- Demonstrated capabilities in testing, validation, and fault-finding activities
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
- Understanding of instrumentation and test equipment
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience
- Experience within automotive, EV, or electrification programmes
- Exposure to high-voltage or safety-critical systems
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with tools such as CANalyzer, MATLAB, AVL Concerto, or JIRA
- Familiarity with battery validation or powertrain test facilities
- Understanding of DFMEA, 8D, or structured problem-solving methodologies
- Experience supporting electric drive unit (EDU) or battery testing programmes
