Permanent | Full time preferred | 3 or 4 days considered (salary pro rata)
Landlords Compliance is an established and growing property compliance business working with landlords, letting agents and property managers across Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.
We’re looking for an experienced SJIB Approved Electrician to join our team and take responsibility for an established and growing workload of electrical inspection, testing and remedial work.
This is not simply a high-volume EICR role.
As we expand our electrical services, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape how this part of the business develops, establish high technical standards and become a key member of the team.
We also intend to obtain SELECT membership, with the successful candidate playing an important role as our nominated Qualified Supervisor through that process and thereafter.
The role:
Your work will include:
- Carrying out domestic EICRs across rented residential properties
- Thorough electrical inspection and testing in accordance with current regulations
- Diagnosing faults and identifying appropriate remedial works
- Completing authorised electrical remedial works
- Consumer unit replacements and upgrades where required
- Testing, maintaining, installing and repairing emergency lighting
- Completing all relevant certification and records
- Producing accurate and clear EICRs and electrical certificates
- Providing practical recommendations that landlords and letting agents can understand and act upon
- Assessing electrical works and assisting with quotations where required
- PAT testing where required
- Working closely with our office team, who arrange appointments and manage client communication
As the electrical side of the business develops, you’ll also help establish and maintain our technical processes, quality standards and electrical compliance procedures.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We intend to apply for SELECT membership and are looking for someone capable of becoming our nominated Qualified Supervisor.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to take greater technical responsibility within the business while remaining hands-on.
You’ll work with management to help ensure our electrical work, certification, procedures and quality control meet the required standards as the business grows.
What we’re looking for
You should have:
- SJIB Approved Electrician grade, or clear eligibility to obtain Approved Electrician status
- A valid SJIB grade card or evidence of eligibility
- A recognised electrical apprenticeship, Electrician SVQ Level 3 or equivalent
- A current qualification covering periodic inspection and testing, such as City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent
- Current working knowledge of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
- Strong experience carrying out domestic EICRs
- Good fault-finding and diagnostic ability
- Experience completing electrical remedial works independently
- A full UK driving licence
- Confidence using a phone or tablet for job records, photographs and certification
- Experience with emergency lighting testing and installation, including BS 5266, would be particularly useful.
- Experience working in occupied residential properties, rented accommodation or with landlords and letting agents would also be an advantage.
About you
Technical ability matters, but so does how you work.
A large proportion of our work takes place in occupied homes, so you’ll need to be professional, respectful and comfortable dealing with tenants as well as landlords, letting agents and our office team.
You’ll be trusted to manage your work independently and make sound technical decisions without someone constantly looking over your shoulder.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Reliable and organised
- Technically confident
- Thorough with inspection, testing and certification
- Professional with customers and tenants
- Proud of the quality of their work
- Interested in helping develop and improve the electrical side of the business
