Thoroughgood Engineering Ltd has over 40 years of experience supporting quarrying and manufacturing operations across the UK. The company specializes in equipment breakdowns, installations, fabrications, repairs, and planned maintenance for a wide range of processing equipment. Typical projects involve conveyors, crushers, fluid-bed and drum dryers, elevators, screws, log washers, and screening equipment. The team delivers on-site services, providing practical, reliable solutions that keep customers’ operations running efficiently. Applicants can expect to work with diverse equipment in an established, hands-on engineering environment.
Role Description
The Electrician role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Colchester Area, but working nationally. The Electrician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and components on quarrying and processing equipment, including conveyors, crushers, dryers, elevators, and screening machinery.

- Diagnosing electrical faults
- Performing troubleshooting
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance
- Ensuring all work meets safety and regulatory standards
The role involves working closely with mechanical engineers and other team members on equipment breakdowns and new installations, as well as completing accurate documentation of work performed.
The Electrician will be required to travel to customer sites within the UK and respond to urgent maintenance needs when required, there may be a requirement to stay away but will be fully expensed.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electricity and electrical work, including safe working practices and relevant regulations.
- Proficiency in maintenance & repair of industrial electrical systems and equipment, preferably within quarrying or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to perform effective troubleshooting and fault finding on complex electrical systems.
- Understanding of basic electrical engineering principles related to industrial machinery and control systems.
- Recognized electrical qualification or apprenticeship (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Experience working with three-phase systems, control panels, motors, and sensors is highly beneficial.
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements, including lockout/tagout and risk assessment procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

- 44 hours a week over 4 days (breaks paid in these hours)
- Company Van and Fuel
- £45k - £57k depending on experience
