University: Weston College and the University of the West of England
Degree: BEng (Hons) Electromechanical Engineering
Standard: ST0025 Manufacturing Engineer Level 6

About Us

We’re looking for Apprentices interested in studying a degree in Electromechanical Engineering to be able to specialise in the integration of mechanical, electronic and electrical engineering systems, to pioneer the future of aircraft systems.
Your journey begins with a nine-month vocational foundation diploma. Afterward, you'll join our experts at Filton, diving into real engineering work on our Commercial Aircraft Programmes. You'll be assigned to a department with incredible career potential, including:
- Flight Physics incl Windtunnel
- Landing Gear Systems
- Fuel & Inerting Systems
We empower our apprentices with significant placement flexibility. You'll not only gain deep technical expertise within your core area but also develop a diverse skill set through rotations in various engineering departments. This unique blend of academic study, on-the-job experience, and training ensures you're well-equipped for a successful and impactful career.
What You Will Be Doing
Our Engineering Degree Apprenticeship offers a full degree with no fees, plus vocational training with a regular salary. Airbus is leading the way with this unique 4-year programme through which you will achieve a BEng (Hons) in Electromechanical Engineering, EAL Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence), EAL Level 4 Diploma in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (Development Competence), and work towards a professional IEng level award.

As an Apprentice Engineer, the type of placements you will undertake may include:
- Aircraft Architecture and Integration
- Design
- Simulation
- Stress and Fatigue
- Systems Installation Safety Analysis
- Research and Technology
- Certification
- Ground and Flight Test
- In Service Support
- Digital (e.g. coding, AI, Machine Learning, Data Analytics)
You will also develop the following:
- Project Management through placements in Chief Engineers or other departments
- Business and Financial knowledge
- Leadership Skills through working on projects with a broad range of people
Requirements
In order to be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must have a minimum of:
- 112 UCAS points or above: 3 A Levels BBC or above which must include Maths at B or above AND Physics or Chemistry at C or above, with a further A-level/AS-Level/BTEC Diploma
- OR
- BTEC Extended Diploma: Aeronautical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing in Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Engineering, Land-based Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations and Maintenance Engineering - minimum grade DMM or D (Advanced Manufacturing Engineering)
- OR
- T Levels – Minimum of Merit overall in Engineering and Manufacturing, additional qualification in Maths at Level 3 preferable but not essential
- AND
- GCSE Maths and English (Language and Literature) – Minimum of Grade 5/B
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Submit your CV stating your grades and if they are predicted or achieved
- Submit a Cover Letter highlighting your passion and suitability for this apprenticeship
- Natural curiosity and excitement to explore and to work in a dynamic and changing environment
- Ability to manage problems and communicate effectively to resolve them in a fast-paced environment
- Passion about Aerospace and shaping the sustainable future of the civil aircraft market

Important Information
- GRADES: If you are on predicted grades, your offer will be conditional to achieving the position’s requirements before the apprenticeship start date.
- SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
- RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK: Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work in the United Kingdom for the full duration of the programme. For more information, please check the Government Website.
- LEVY FUNDING: Successful candidates must be eligible for the levy funding.
Our apprenticeship roles do not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas & Immigration to enable sponsorship of migrant workers.
