Industrial Electronic Repairs Ltd (IER)
Industrial Electronic Repairs Ltd (IER), based in Letchworth, are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Electronic Engineer Apprentices to join their team. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about electronics & engineering and committed to building a long-term career in the industry.
Wage
- £14,560 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
- National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

- Engineering fitter (level 3)
Hours
- Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm (1 hour unpaid lunch break)
- 35 hours a week

What you'll do at work
IER are an experienced industrial electronic repair company, who have carried out global repairs for clients since 2001. Their professional team of engineers operate from various strategically placed UK workshops. Using their experience, training and state-of-the-art test equipment, the IER team repair a vast range of Industrial Electronic equipment.
As an Electronic Engineering Apprentice with IER, you will have the opportunity to develop highly specialised skills in an industry where experienced electronic repair engineers are in increasing demand. This apprenticeship offers a unique pathway into a rewarding engineering career, combining hands-on practical experience with structured learning and development.
Working alongside experienced engineers, you will learn how to diagnose, test and repair a wide range of industrial electronic equipment down to component level. You will gain experience working on equipment from a variety of manufacturing and industrial sectors, ensuring every day brings new challenges and opportunities to expand your technical knowledge. As your skills develop, you will learn to identify faults and complete repairs, often using your own diagnostic techniques where manufacturer documentation is unavailable.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work closely with a knowledgeable team of engineers who will support your learning, encourage the sharing of ideas and help you build confidence in your technical abilities. You will also learn the importance of maintaining accurate service records and producing clear documentation of the work you have carried out, ensuring high standards of quality and customer service are maintained.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in electronics and engineering who is keen to develop specialist skills and build a long-term career within a growing and highly respected industry.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
- Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
- Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
- Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
- Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
- Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
- Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
- Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
- Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
- Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
- Reporting work outcomes or issues.
- Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and housekeeping.
- Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; recycling, re-using where appropriate.
- Operating within limits of responsibility.
- Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.

- Please consider your travel arrangements before applying. The workplace is accessible by public transport; however, having access to your own transport or being able to drive would be advantageous due to the location, although this is not an essential requirement.
