The Role
We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our growing Protective Design & Security practice. This is an opportunity to work on a diverse range of technically challenging projects across the UK and internationally. Our portfolio spans Government and defence, sport, commercial, rail, aviation, energy, critical infrastructure and other complex, high-profile sectors. You will deliver physical and electronic security projects, developing practical and innovative solutions that respond to the needs of our clients and the environments in which they operate.
As a Project Engineer, you will take ownership of projects, build strong relationships with clients and project partners, and support the development of less experienced engineers. You will have the opportunity to work independently while collaborating with colleagues across disciplines and offices to deliver high-quality outcomes on complex projects.

What You Will Do
- Deliver and manage security projects from inception through to completion including; developing and delivering security strategies, designs and technical specifications.
- Design and coordinate systems including access control, CCTV, intruder detection, intercoms and integrated security management systems.
- Work closely with clients, stakeholders, architects, engineers, contractors and other members of the project team.
- Coordinate designs using relevant digital tools, including Revit and AutoCAD.
- Apply appropriate security principles, guidance and standards, including relevant ISO and NPSA requirements.
- Support project planning, fee proposals, risk management and delivery.
- Review technical work and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Mentor and support junior members of the team, contributing to their professional development.
- Represent Thornton Tomasetti professionally in client and project meetings.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, standards and good practice in electronic security.
- Contribute to the continued development of the Electronic Security discipline within the PD&S practice.
What You Will Bring
- Substantial experience in electronic security engineering or a closely related discipline, ideally more than five years, although no fixed experience threshold applies.
- Ability to demonstrate sound technical judgement and the ability to take responsibility for projects and deliverables.
- Experience designing and delivering electronic security systems, ideally across complex or high-security environments.
- Experience leading and managing projects.
- The ability to collaborate positively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Familiarity with, or a willingness to learn, Revit and AutoCAD.
- An understanding of relevant security standards, guidance and good practice, NPSA principles.
- A commitment to technical quality, continuous learning and professional development.
- Relevant qualifications or membership of an appropriate professional/industry body—such as the Security Institute or the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists—would be advantageous, but not essential.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate will be required to attain and maintain UK Government security clearance appropriate to the role and project requirements. Applicants must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least five of the last five years to meet the requirements for UK security clearance.
Applicants must also be legally permitted to work in the UK and will be required to provide appropriate evidence as part of the recruitment process.
