Location: Crawley
Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 8.45am – 4.55pm, Friday 8.45am – 4.25pm
Package: Salary dependent on experience, Technical Bonus, Annual leave 25 days plus bank holidays, Company Pension, Life Assurance, EAP.
The Role
We are looking for a talented Electronics Design Engineer to work within the Volution Ventilation Group Technical Team, reporting to the Technical Manager – Controls, to design, develop & review hardware for embedded ventilation control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in a small team environment designing, developing & reviewing hardware, including Schematics and PCB layouts for ventilation control systems.
- Work closely with firmware, compliance, mechanical, test, product management and manufacturing teams to ensure successful product delivery.
- Write, update and review product design and hardware specification documents to ensure all requirements and standards are met, throughout the whole product life cycle.
- Write hardware functional test documents to ensure produced hardware meets the design specifications.
- Investigation of faulty hardware, including use of standard electronics test equipment.
- Plan, monitor, and control workload and progress, ensuring deliverables are achieved against agreed timescales.
- Be comfortable working with ambiguity and solving complex technical problems.
- Ability to prioritize key tasks effectively and demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Essential skills and experience
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
- Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or related subjects or equivalent experience.
- Design of circuits containing embedded processors, I2C, SPI, PWM, UART.
- Analysis and review of existing hardware designs.
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting skills.
- Experience of commissioning and debugging prototype / newly-developed hardware, including use of tools such as oscilloscopes.
- Experience with manufacturing techniques and design for manufacturing concepts.
- Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation.
- Strong written, and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate concepts, designs, design validation test results and progress of projects to core team & leadership.

Desirable
- 2+ years of industry experience in industrial embedded hardware systems.
- Experience using Altium schematic and PCB layout design tools.
- Experience designing for ARM Cortex M micros, ESP32, BLE, Ethernet / Wi-Fi / IoT, sub-GHz radio & AC-DC power supplies up to 40W.
- Able to support/debug integrated/embedded systems.
- Experience in handover and management of designs in production.
- Familiar with the UKCA/CE approvals process.
- Experience designing products to EN60335-1 (or similar) standards.
