Electronics / Electrical Harness Design Engineer – UAV / Drones - Buckinghamshire - 6 Month Contract (Outside IR35)
Location: Buckinghamshire
Contract: 6 Months (Outside IR35)
Working Pattern: 2–3 days per week on-site
Rate: £DOE
Start: ASAP
The Opportunity
We are supporting an innovative engineering organisation operating at the forefront of UAV, drone and advanced aerospace technology with an urgent requirement for an experienced Electronics / Electrical Harness Design Engineer.
The business is currently experiencing a significant increase in engineering activity and requires additional hands-on support across electrical design and system integration.
The three key areas of responsibility are:
- Wiring harness design
- Schematic / PCB design
- System / module integration
Wiring harness design is the immediate priority, so we are particularly interested in engineers with strong experience designing and documenting electrical harnesses for complex systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical wiring harnesses for UAV and aerospace applications.
- Produce harness schematics, wiring diagrams, connector definitions, pinouts, cable schedules and manufacturing documentation.
- Select appropriate connectors, cables, terminals and associated electrical components.
- Define harness routing, packaging and electrical interfaces between modules.
- Support schematic capture and PCB design activities where required.
- Support the integration of electronic modules and electrical systems.
- Work closely with mechanical, electronics, systems, software and manufacturing engineers.
- Support prototype builds, installation, integration and testing.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues during system integration.
- Produce and maintain clear engineering and manufacturing documentation.

Required Experience
- Strong experience in electrical/electronics engineering and wiring harness design.
- Demonstrable experience designing wiring harnesses rather than solely building or assembling them.
- Experience with professional electrical/harness design tools.
- Good understanding of connectors, terminals, cable specification, pinouts, grounding and shielding.
- Ability to produce manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience with schematic capture and/or PCB design.
- Experience integrating electrical/electronic modules into complex systems.
- Strong practical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable operating within a fast-paced engineering/R&D environment.
- Able to work on-site in Buckinghamshire 2–3 days per week.

Desirable Background
Experience within any of the following would be highly advantageous:
- UAVs / drones / UAS
- Aerospace / avionics
- Defence
- Motorsport
- Automotive
- Robotics / autonomous systems
- Electric propulsion
- Battery / power electronics
- Prototype or low-volume engineering
Experience with harness/electrical design packages such as Capital, EPLAN, Zuken E3, AutoCAD Electrical or similar would also be beneficial.
Contract Details
- Duration: 6 months
- Location: Buckinghamshire
- On-site requirement: 2–3 days per week
- Rate: Guided by market / negotiable depending on experience
- Start: ASAP
This is an urgent requirement and would suit an experienced engineer who can quickly take ownership of electrical design work and provide immediate support to an established engineering team.
Candidates with particularly strong wiring harness design expertise are encouraged to apply even if they do not cover every aspect of PCB design.
