At HUBER+SUHNER Polatis, we develop innovative optical networking solutions that enable data to move across some of the world's most demanding communications networks.
We're looking for an Electronics Engineer to join our Cambridge team and play a key role in the development, verification and support of advanced electronic products. This is an exciting opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle, from new PCB design verification and test development through to production support, fault investigation and continuous improvement.
If you enjoy hands-on engineering, solving complex technical problems and working with multidisciplinary teams, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and execute verification and validation strategies to ensure products meet performance, reliability and customer requirements.
- Create and maintain test plans, procedures and acceptance criteria with full traceability to design specifications.
- Define test requirements that maximise PCB assembly test coverage and fault detection capability.
- Design, build and support test equipment, fixtures and automated test solutions for engineering and production environments.
- Use scripting, automation and data analysis techniques to improve test efficiency and repeatability.
- Produce clear technical reports detailing results, conclusions and recommendations.
- Deliver hardware and software-based test solutions to agreed project schedules and quality standards.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of new test equipment and technologies.
- Work closely with Design, Manufacturing, Quality and Test teams to improve product testability, manufacturability and reliability.
- Identify project risks early and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes.
- Perform detailed fault-finding and component-level diagnostics on analogue, digital, embedded, FPGA and power electronic systems.
- Lead structured root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Support production and quality teams in resolving technical issues and improving product performance.
- Create specifications for automated test equipment, fixtures and bespoke test platforms.
- Analyse failure trends and support new product introduction activities to ensure successful transfer into manufacturing.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
