Role Summary
As an Electronics Engineer, you will play a key role in bringing new PCB designs into life, verifying product performance, and ensuring exceptional product reliability through rigorous test development and structured problem-solving.
You will work across the full engineering lifecycle — from concept and verification through to supporting production and field-returned products. This role suits someone with strong fundamentals in analogue, digital, embedded, and power electronics, combined with a methodical, hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
You will have the opportunity to influence design quality, develop bespoke test solutions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver world-class products.
Key Responsibilities
Design Verification & Test Development
- Develop, execute and continuously improve verification and validation strategies to ensure products meet functional, performance, reliability, and customer requirements.
- Create and maintain comprehensive test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria, ensuring traceability to design specifications and customer expectations.
- Define test requirements that maximize PCB assembly test coverage, improve fault detection capability, and support a right-first-time approach to product development and manufacture.
- Design, build, commission, and document test equipment, fixtures, and automated test solutions for engineering verification, qualification, and production environments.
- Apply scripting, automation, and data analysis techniques to improve test efficiency, increase repeatability, and support data-driven engineering decisions.
- Produce clear, accurate, and timely technical reports, presenting results, conclusions, recommendations, and PASS/FAIL status in a professional manner.
- Deliver hardware and software-based test solutions within agreed schedules, budgets, and project milestones, maintaining a strong focus on quality and customer requirements.
- Support the evaluation, introduction, and qualification of third-party test equipment, tools, and technologies that improve capability, efficiency, or quality.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Test, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure products are designed for testability, manufacturability, and long-term reliability.
- Identify technical risks early and proactively propose mitigation plans to support successful project delivery.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering processes, test methodologies, product quality, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain a commitment to professional development, staying current with emerging technologies, industry best practice, and new engineering techniques.

Root Cause Analysis & Production Support
- Perform detailed fault-finding and diagnostic investigations to component level on complex electronic assemblies, including FPGA, embedded processor, analogue, digital, and power electronic systems.
- Lead structured root cause investigations using recognized problem-solving methodologies, ensuring robust corrective and preventive actions are identified and implemented.
- Analyze recurring, intermittent, and complex failures using a methodical, evidence-based approach, drawing clear conclusions supported by technical data.
- Support production, quality, and manufacturing teams in resolving technical issues, minimizing disruption, and maintaining delivery commitments.
- Work collaboratively across engineering disciplines to identify improvement opportunities and prevent the recurrence of product and process-related issues.
- Create technical specifications for Automated Test Equipment (ATE), bed-of-nails fixtures, and bespoke test platforms to support current and future manufacturing requirements.
- Generate and maintain clear documentation covering test procedures, fault-finding activities, rework instructions, engineering changes, and production processes.
- Contribute to product quality improvement by identifying trends, analyzing failure data, and recommending corrective actions based on objective evidence.
- Support new product introduction activities, ensuring robust test coverage, effective validation, and successful transfer into manufacturing.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability when resolving technical challenges, ensuring actions are driven through to completion and lessons learned are captured and shared.
Your profile
Skills & Experience
- HNC, HND, Degree, or higher qualification in Electronic Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in an electronics design, product development, test, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of analogue, digital, power, and embedded electronic systems, with the ability to interpret complex schematics and functional designs.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve electronic faults to component level using a structured and methodical approach.
- Experience conducting root cause investigations and generating professional technical reports using recognized methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, or equivalent problem-solving tools.
- Proficiency in the use of laboratory and diagnostic equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, spectrum analysers, logic analysers, function generators, and related instrumentation.
- Practical hands-on skills including soldering, PCB modifications, prototype assembly, rework, and repair activities.
- Good understanding of PCB and PCBA manufacturing processes, including Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
- Experience using software tools, scripting languages, automation techniques, or data analysis methods to improve engineering effectiveness and support informed decision-making.
- Strong attention to detail with a quality-focused mindset and a commitment to producing accurate, reliable, and robust engineering outputs.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple activities while consistently delivering work to agreed deadlines and quality standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with design teams, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, customers, and external partners.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and target-oriented, with a willingness to take ownership of technical challenges and drive tasks through to successful completion.
