Electronics Technologist (Electronics & Instrumentation Technologist)
Location: Woking, Surrey UK
Department: Engineering / Product Development
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Position Summary
MEDCO is seeking a highly motivated Electronics Technologist to support the development, testing, production, deployment, and maintenance of our oilfield instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and real-time monitoring solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with software developers, engineers, and customers to ensure reliable operation of MEDCO's hardware and software products used in coiled tubing, well intervention, and other well servicing applications. Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, configure, test, and troubleshoot electronic hardware systems used in data acquisition and monitoring applications.
- Support development and improvement of MEDCO's real-time monitoring, HMI, and data acquisition products.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on electronic assemblies, communication systems, controllers, sensors, and industrial instrumentation.
- Conduct product verification and validation testing on new and existing hardware platforms.
- Install, commission, and support equipment at customer locations as required.
- Troubleshoot field issues involving instrumentation, sensors, communications, power systems, and software integration.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and product specifications.
- Assist engineering staff with prototype development, product enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Document test procedures, troubleshooting activities, and corrective actions.
- Support quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with internal standards and customer requirements.
- Maintain laboratory and test equipment including calibration and verification records.
- Provide technical support to customers and internal teams.

Required Qualifications
Education
- Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 2+ years of hands-on electronics, instrumentation, industrial controls, or field service experience.
- Experience troubleshooting electronic systems in industrial, energy, automation, or oil and gas environments.
- Experience working with data acquisition systems and electronic instrumentation preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics.
- Proficiency using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, and other electronic test equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot PCB-level issues and electronic assemblies.
- Experience with industrial communications and networking technologies.
- Knowledge of sensors, transducers, instrumentation, and measurement systems.
- Familiarity with serial communications, Ethernet, Modbus, CANBus, or similar protocols is an asset.
- Experience with embedded systems, industrial computers, or HMI systems is desirable.
- Basic mechanical assembly and wiring skills.
- Ability to prepare and maintain technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in oilfield services, coiled tubing operations, well intervention, or industrial process monitoring.
- Experience supporting real-time monitoring systems and field instrumentation.
- Knowledge of data acquisition systems and industrial automation technologies.
- Understanding of hazardous-area equipment and oilfield operating environments.
