Embedded Linux Field Application Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Linux Field Application Engineer (3+ years of experience) based in the UK to provide critical on-site technical support, quality issue management, and application troubleshooting for a Tier-1 Automotive & Heavy Equipment OEM.
In this role, you will act as the technical interface between hardware/software engineering teams and the customer on the field. You will focus on post-sales quality support, Linux kernel/system log analysis, and HMI/Qt application troubleshooting on NXP i.MX6 platforms.
Note: This is a field engineering and system/application troubleshooting role; no software development from scratch is required.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Post-Sales & Quality Support: Drive root-cause analysis and resolution for post-release quality issues, software glitches, and system bugs on production vehicles/hardware.
- HMI & Application Troubleshooting: Diagnose, debug, and resolve issues related to user interfaces (HMI), graphics, and Qt-based application software.
- System & Log Diagnostics: Perform deep log analysis (dmesg, journalctl, serial logs, kernel dumps) on NXP i.MX6 architectures to identify system bottlenecks, crashes, or peripheral failures.
- On-Site Field Engineering: Provide direct, hands-on technical support on customer sites, interacting with vehicles, electronic control units (ECUs), displays, and field hardware.
- In-Vehicle Networking & Diagnostics: Capture, analyze, and troubleshoot communication logs across CAN, J1939, and ISOBUS networks using standard hardware/software tools.
- Technical Interface & Reporting: Document technical findings, create detailed bug/incident reports, and liaise with internal R&D software teams to deliver long-term fixes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
