Your Future Role
Take on an exciting new challenge in embedded software design in a fast-moving industry. You will report to the Head of Engineering, working closely with a dedicated Services team in Alstom UK&I. Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Delivering cost-efficient embedded software designs aligned with project budgets.
- Meeting agreed customer deadlines while maintaining high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design embedded software for electronics systems based on customer and project requirements.
- Ensure high standards in performance, reliability, cost efficiency, and innovation—prioritising quality and compliance.
- Maintain full industry (and EU) regulatory compliance in software design.
- Uphold best practices while continuously improving embedded systems.
- Comply with design, quality, and Health & Safety regulations, then report any issues promptly to the Engineering Manager.
- Support all stages of testing (e.g., factory acceptance, site testing, commissioning).
- Manage change control and version control for software development.

About You
We value passion and attitude over rigid requirements. While not mandatory, these skills will help you thrive:
Essential Experience & Skills
✔ Substantial embedded software design expertise in a relevant electronics business (preferably rail-related). ✔ Individual motivation—self-driven, logical thinker, and a team player. ✔ Strong technical aptitude in:
- C/C++, C#, Visual Studio, CE 5.0/6.0, .NET
- MFC, Visual Basic, ARM9, 8051, PIC, X86
- Assembler, SQL, RTOS (dwelling on embedded).
- Skills in fault analysis, unit/integration testing, and change management. ✔ Acute focus on customer service—critical for meeting their needs. ✔ 100% compliance with latest design, quality, and HSE regulations. ✔ Ability to meet timescales, cost constraints, and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
🎓 Degree-level education in Software Engineering or a related subject.
