About You

Thermoteknix is seeking a highly skilled Embedded Software Engineer to join our expanding Augmented Reality (AR) and Infrared Products team. In this role, you will play a key part in the ongoing development of our AR product portfolio, contributing to the design and implementation of new features, resolving software bugs, and diagnosing issues in deployed units. You will also support the development of next-generation AR and closely related products in a dynamic, fast-paced environment characterised by continuous innovation and product evolution. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or equivalent preferred (equivalent experience will be considered).
  • More than 5 years C++ experience (C experience a plus, but not an alternative).
  • Proficient with advanced features of C++ such as polymorphism, templates, smart pointers, threading, and use of C++ STL.
  • Previous experience with microcontrollers, especially PIC32 or ARM based, but experience with any microcontroller will be considered.
  • Ability to read and understand electronic schematic diagrams when implementing embedded software (specific electronics experience is not required, but would be a plus).

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages.
  • Understanding and familiarity with embedded Linux, including shell scripts and using the terminal proficiently (experience with desktop Linux or other embedded OSes will be considered).
  • Familiarity with Xilinx Zynq and/or Microchip Polarfire FPGA SoCs.
  • Familiarity with other high performance embedded processors, e.g. Texas Instruments Sitara, Freescale i.MX, Raspberry Pi.
  • Demonstrable experience writing kernel drivers for Linux kernel for custom peripherals.
  • Familiarity with sensor processing and fusion algorithms, e.g. Kalman filters.
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi systems, especially libraries and tools used on an embedded Linux system (e.g. BlueZ, wpa-supplicant and so on).
  • Familiarity with USB and debugging common issues with USB systems.
  • Ability to debug and diagnose common issues with embedded systems platforms, e.g. I2C issues, watchdog/system exceptions.

Other Notes

  • Soft skills: demonstrated problem-solving ability and working in small teams, but comfortable working independently as required. Self-directed learning a plus.
  • Personal projects and/or open source contributions to projects will be strongly received, if these can be demonstrated e.g. GitHub repository link, personal portfolio.
  • Must be comfortable working on military projects and defence applications.
  • Able to obtain security clearance if required (all candidates must pass at least BPSS).
  • Occasional travel in the UK and internationally.
  • Generally looking for candidates with 5+ years of experience in a software or electronics field.
  • Hybrid working may be possible.
