Embedded Software Engineer – C/C++ | ARM | RTOS

Location: Sedgefield, County Durham
Working Model: Hybrid working
Salary: £65,000–£75,000, depending on experience


We’re recruiting an Embedded Software Engineer for a growing technology company developing advanced RF and communications systems for the Space, Aerospace, Defence and Telecommunications sectors.

You’ll join a multidisciplinary engineering team and develop embedded software for complex electronic products, working closely with hardware, FPGA, RF and systems engineers throughout the full development lifecycle.

The Role

  • Develop embedded software in C/C++ for ARM-based microcontrollers
  • Work across bare-metal and RTOS environments, including FreeRTOS and Zephyr
  • Bring up and debug new prototype hardware
  • Develop embedded communications using Ethernet, CAN, SPI, I²C, UART and RS422
  • Support networking functionality such as TCP/IP, REST APIs and SNMP
  • Integrate software with RF, FPGA and electronic hardware
  • Troubleshoot embedded software, networking and system-level issues
  • Contribute from initial concept through to production and manufacture

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong commercial embedded C/C++ experience
  • Experience with bare-metal systems and/or an RTOS
  • ARM Cortex microcontroller experience
  • Practical hardware bring-up and debugging skills
  • Knowledge of embedded communication protocols
  • A relevant degree or equivalent commercial experience

Experience with STM32, Zephyr, FreeRTOS, TCP/IP, secure bootloaders, firmware updates, Python, MISRA or RF systems would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
