Embedded Software Engineer – Embedded Linux / RTOS
South East London | 6-Month Contract (Inside IR35 | Competitive Day Rate
We're looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer with strong Embedded Linux and C/C++ development experience to support the delivery of a high-profile embedded software project.
You'll join an established engineering team, developing and integrating real-time embedded software for dedicated hardware platforms. This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute from day one, helping deliver robust, high-performance software for complex engineering systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain embedded software in C/C++.
- Develop software for Embedded Linux and real-time operating systems.
- Implement multi-threaded, real-time applications with deterministic performance.
- Integrate software with embedded hardware and support system validation.
- Debug, test and optimise software throughout the development lifecycle.
- Support software architecture and technical problem solving.
- Develop GUI functionality using JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS and Node.js, where required.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver project milestones.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven commercial experience developing embedded software in C/C++.
- Strong Embedded Linux development experience.
- Experience with RTOS environments such as VxWorks, Linux RT or FreeRTOS.
- Good understanding of multi-threading, scheduling and real-time software principles.
- Experience integrating software with embedded hardware.
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development practices.

Desirable
- Previous experience with VxWorks.
- Python, Bash or PowerShell scripting.
- Experience developing embedded GUI applications.
