Iron Mountain is seeking an Strategic Design Manager to join our EMEA Design and Construction team.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead the end-to-end design delivery for critical data centre construction projects across key European markets like London, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Frankfurt. Working closely with multidisciplinary experts and external consultants, your work ensures our high-performance infrastructure meets exact engineering standards while directly supporting our expanding digital footprint.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

In this role, you will:

  • Lead third-party design consultants: Manage external design teams to deliver mission-critical data centre facilities that align with global specifications.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration: Partner with internal construction, finance, sales, and operations teams to execute fit-out programs and validate business pursuit opportunities.
  • Provide engineering oversight: Direct budget, schedule, and product delivery to keep assigned infrastructure projects compliant with organizational quality and safety regulations.
  • Manage project risks: Identify critical engineering risks and opportunities early in the design phase to protect project timelines and delivery standards.

What You’ll Bring (Skills & Qualifications)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in the design delivery of mission-critical facilities, specifically within M&E-led industries such as Data Centres, Pharmaceutical, or Energy.
  • Strong knowledge of complex mechanical, electrical, life safety, and control systems, alongside a solid command of national and local building codes.
  • Proven ability in directing multidisciplinary design teams and managing key vendor and internal stakeholder relationships in a fast-paced environment.
  • University Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering, with the flexibility to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.
