About Us

Wellington Management offers comprehensive investment management capabilities that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets. Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 60 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

About the Role

We are seeking to hire a Financing Trader to focus on financing markets, with particular emphasis on government bonds and credit repo. The Trader will execute and manage financing activity across our global investment platform, working closely with portfolio managers and our trading teams in Boston, London, and Hong Kong.

While execution is a core responsibility, there is significant opportunity and expectation to add value to client portfolios. The successful candidate will develop a deep understanding of repo pricing, collateral dynamics, dealer balance-sheet capacity, and market structure, using this knowledge to improve financing outcomes and identify investment opportunities.

Wellington Management’s Trading Department employs over 60 traders globally, including more than 20 Macro Traders focused on Global Rates, FX, Commodities, Emerging Market Debt, and Repo. Our investment and trading activities are conducted on an industry-leading internally developed technology platform, which we believe creates a meaningful competitive advantage. We are also supported by an in-house team of managers and quantitative and business analysts, who oversee the “business” of the department and provide in-depth, action-oriented insights into our trading capabilities and activities.

Essential Skills:

  • Superior financing and execution skills – The Trader will execute repo, reverse repo, and other secured financing transactions consistent with our best execution and risk-management practices. The successful candidate will understand financing curves, general collateral and specials, collateral scarcity, term funding, and dealer balance sheet dynamics, and use this knowledge to optimize portfolio financing and identify investment opportunities.
  • Superior collaboration skills – The Trader will build strong relationships externally with dealers and other financing-market participants and internally with portfolio managers, analysts, and traders. The successful candidate will proactively source financing capacity and collateral, identify specials, and communicate actionable market intelligence across the investment platform.
  • Risk-management mindset – The Trader will understand and actively manage the liquidity, collateral, counterparty, settlement, and operational risks associated with financing markets. They will work closely with internal partners to ensure financing activity is scalable, resilient, and appropriately controlled.
  • Growth and technology mindset – The successful candidate will have a strong interest in the evolution of electronic repo trading, central clearing, collateral optimization, and automation, and will use technology and data to improve execution quality, efficiency, and investment outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
