Vice President, EMEA Operations First Line Risk & Control (FLRC)
MUFG, one of the world’s largest and most respected financial institutions, is seeking a Vice President for its EMEA Operations First Line Risk & Control (FLRC) team in London. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to shape risk management practices across Corporate Banking Operations and Global Markets Operations, ensuring operational resilience and regulatory compliance throughout the region.
What you'll do:
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a diverse team of risk professionals by setting clear objectives aligned with departmental goals while promoting employee engagement and wellbeing.
- Provide independent first-line risk and control oversight across EMEA Corporate Banking Operations and Global Markets Operations by supporting business areas in identifying, assessing, managing, and mitigating operational risks.
- Review and challenge risk assessments to ensure risks are appropriately understood and managed while maintaining a regional view of operational exposures and emerging risks.
- Drive the implementation, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of the Operational Risk Management Framework across EMEA Operations by facilitating Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) and overseeing control inventories.
- Perform control assurance reviews and effectiveness assessments by analysing deficiencies, recommending improvements, monitoring thematic reviews, and supporting quality assurance initiatives.
- Lead oversight of operational incidents by ensuring timely identification, escalation, investigation, resolution, root cause analysis, remediation actions, tracking trends from incidents or issues, and overseeing audit findings remediation.
- Produce and present risk and control Management Information (MI) to senior management and governance forums by delivering thematic analysis of risk trends, consolidated reporting on controls/issues/incidents/remediation activities.
- Act as a key liaison with Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Financial Crime teams, Internal Audit, external stakeholders; support regulatory reviews/audits/examinations; provide expertise during regulatory change initiatives.
- Provide risk/control oversight for strategic initiatives including transformation programmes/technology implementations/process changes/automation activities; review change risk assessments/implementation plans; support resilience/business continuity planning.
- Build effective relationships with Operations leadership/regional stakeholders/control functions; provide independent challenge/guidance to senior business stakeholders; influence outcomes through communication/engagement; collaborate regionally/globally for best practice.

What you bring:
- Extensive experience within Operational Risk or First Line Risk & Control functions in global financial services organisations is essential for success in this role.
- Strong knowledge of Corporate Banking Operations and Global Markets Operations—including front-to-back processes—associated risks/control environments is required.
- Proven track record implementing/managing Operational Risk Management Frameworks such as RCSA processes/KRIs/control assurance/issue management within regulated environments is highly valued.
- Demonstrable experience overseeing/challenging operational risks/controls/incidents/remediation activities across complex regional/global operating models—preferably within EMEA—is necessary.
- Previous people management/coaching/leadership experience with ability to develop high-performing teams is expected.
- Significant functional/technical competencies in Operational Risk/Banking Operations Risk Management including controls testing/governance/issue management are mandatory.
- Good analytical skills from an operational perspective combined with understanding general process flows/products are important assets.
- Excellent communication skills (written/oral), stakeholder management abilities plus proficiency in PowerPoint/PowerBI/MS Excel/Word are required.
- Degree or equivalent work experience is needed; additional qualifications related to risk or operations would be advantageous.
- A calm approach under pressure coupled with attention to detail/numerical skills/motivation/accountability/interpersonal strengths will set you apart.
