EMEA Payroll Consultant

Currently working exclusively with a client of ours in the Healthcare technology industry who are looking for an EMEA Payroll Consultant to join their growing team.

As the EMEA Payroll Consultant you will be responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payroll delivery across Europe, the Middle East, and China. This role partners with internal HR, Finance, Tax, Benefits, and external payroll providers to manage complex multi-country payroll activity, resolve payroll issues, support statutory compliance, and drive process improvements across the regional payroll function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support end-to-end payroll processing for assigned EMEA countries, ensuring payrolls are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Review, validate, and reconcile payroll inputs and outputs, including salary changes, bonuses, allowances, deductions, statutory payments, benefits, and terminations.
  • Ensure payroll activities comply with country-specific tax, social security, labor law, data privacy, and internal control requirements.
  • Partner with local payroll providers and internal stakeholders to coordinate payroll calendars, resolve exceptions, and confirm funding and payment approvals.
  • Prepare and review payroll reports, journal entries, variance analysis, gross-to-net reconciliations, and payroll funding requirements.
  • Support year-end activities, statutory filings, audit requests, and documentation requirements across assigned countries.
  • Respond to employee and stakeholder payroll inquiries, investigate discrepancies, and provide clear, timely resolutions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll documentation, standard operating procedures, calendars, and process controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, strengthen controls, increase automation, and enhance the employee payroll experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in multi-country payroll operations, preferably across EMEA.
  • Strong understanding of payroll compliance, statutory deductions, tax, social security, labor regulations, and data privacy requirements.
  • Experience working with third-party payroll providers and cross-functional teams such as HR, Finance, Tax, Benefits, and Treasury.
  • Ability to validate complex payroll calculations, perform reconciliations, analyze variances, and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with payroll data, reporting, and HR/payroll systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage deadlines across multiple countries and payroll calendars.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain payroll issues clearly to employees, vendors, and business partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with global payroll platforms or HR systems such as Deel, IRIS, Fesco, Danlon, UKG, or similar systems.
  • Experience supporting payroll audits, SOX controls, GDPR requirements, or other internal control frameworks.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting, journal entries, funding processes, and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Experience participating in payroll transformation, vendor transition, system implementation, or process improvement projects.
  • Additional language skills such as Mandarin relevant to the EMEA region are a plus.

Working Relationships

This role works closely with regional and local HR teams, Finance, Tax, Benefits, Treasury, external payroll vendors, and business leaders to ensure payroll operations are accurate, compliant, and aligned with business needs.
