About The Role

This role is part of the Emergency Planning Team. The team works to make NNC ready for emergencies, by assessing hazards and threats, then making plans and procedures to respond.

The role will play a key part in making North Northamptonshire prepared for emergencies by working within the authority, with communities and other responders for the benefit of our residents.

The role is 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday. After a period of training, you will join an on-call rota that provides 24/7 cover for the council to respond to emergencies that can happen at any time. Although the role is predominantly completed in normal office hours, the nature of the work requires flexibility and a willingness to work unsocial hours as required.

This role is for a full-time permanent contract.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 1st November.

In-person interviews are currently expected to take place on Thursday 19th November, although this is subject to change.

What will you be doing?

You will be helping NNC to be ready for all manner of emergencies and disruptive events.

You will support in assessing hazards and threats and the development of the plans and procedures to help us deal with them, in line with our duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. You will help us to keep our plans, procedures and records up to date and ready for use during incidents.

You will work with other parts of the council, our communities and other emergency responders to support NNC's resilience strategy. You will help us to manage the authority's response to emergencies and major incidents and take an active part in our responses.

About You

Emergencies can happen any time, and we need to be ready for them. The successful candidate will be flexible and willing to meet the demands of emergency response and the needs of our residents. You must be willing to take part in an on-call rota to provide out of hours cover for the authority. This role can deal with some challenging subjects, and a great deal of personal resilience can be needed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
