Employability Officer – Cardiff & Barry

Salary: £25,000–£27,000

Location: Covering Cardiff and Barry

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–4:30pm (35 hours per week)

We are recruiting an Employability Officer on behalf of an established employment and skills organisation. You will develop relationships with employers across Cardiff and Barry, securing sustainable jobs and high-quality work placements for programme participants.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone from an employer-engagement, recruitment, business-development, or employability background who wants a commercially focused role with genuine social impact. The client’s identity will be shared with suitable applicants during the recruitment process.

What you’ll be doing

You will act as the key link between employers, participants, and internal delivery teams. Your role will involve understanding local recruitment needs, creating opportunities, and matching participants with suitable employers. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying sustainable job opportunities and work placements.
  • Proactively approaching employers and developing new business relationships.
  • Building and maintaining a strong network of local employer contacts.
  • Understanding employer recruitment needs and introducing suitable participants.
  • Matching participants with appropriate vacancies and placements.
  • Securing high-quality placements that build workplace skills and confidence.
  • Completing workplace health and safety appraisals and risk assessments.
  • Ensuring placements meet relevant legislative and programme standards.
  • Collecting the required evidence for confirmed job starts.
  • Supporting participants to overcome barriers and remain in employment.
  • Monitoring local and regional labour-market trends.
  • Representing the organisation at careers, marketing, and employer events.

What we’re looking for

You will be proactive, confident, and comfortable approaching new employers. You will know how to build credibility, understand business needs, and turn conversations into meaningful opportunities. You will need:

  • Experience working with unemployed adults and young people.
  • Experience sourcing sustainable jobs or work placements.
  • A proven ability to develop new employer or business relationships.
  • Strong customer-service and relationship-management experience.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and networking skills.
  • The confidence to represent the organisation at employer and community events.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities across Cardiff and Barry.
  • A willingness to complete a DBS check, funded by the employer.
  • A willingness to register with the Education Workforce Council.
