Job Title: Employee Relations Manager

Reports To: Registered Manager

Location: Bembridge, Isle of Wight

Salary: £30,000 - £34,000 dependent on experience plus performance-based bonus

Hours: 37.5 hours per week plus on-call responsibility

Right at Home Isle of Wight are a leading homecare provider, delivering high-quality support to elderly clients, as well as adults with physical and learning disabilities. Recognised for our standards and reputation, we are now seeking an ambitious and compassionate Employee Relations Manager to join our growing team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support our staff and service delivery, ensure compliance, and help grow a thriving care business.

Purpose of the Role

The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for the whole carer employee journey such as attracting, recruiting, onboarding, training, developing, engaging and retaining high-quality carers.

The role owns recruitment and pre-employment compliance, induction and the critical first 12 weeks, and then ongoing training, appraisals, engagement and wellbeing through to the leaver process.

Working closely with the office team, the Employee Relations Manager ensures carers feel valued, supported and connected to the organisation, ultimately improving retention, quality of care and continuity for clients.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Manage carer recruitment end to end from enquiry, to interview, to offer and candidate communication.
  • Complete pre-employment compliance, including but not limited to ID, DBS and references, and set new starters up on all systems.
  • Own the onboarding journey and the first 12 weeks, with structured supervisions and field observations.
  • Deliver the recruitment marketing plan and the Refer a Friend scheme.

Training & Development

  • Coordinate induction, eLearning and external training, including medication and delegated clinical tasks.
  • Support our in-house trainer.
  • Support carers and Care Coordinator with performance, confidence and professional development.
  • Keep training records and certificates up to date and signpost further development.

Appraisals & Support

  • Complete regular carer appraisals and one-to-one reviews in line with CQC requirements.
  • Carry out competency observations for carers and office staff.
  • Give constructive feedback and recognition and escalate safeguarding or performance concerns appropriately.

Retention & Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with carers across the team and champion a culture where they feel valued and heard.
  • Own the engagement calendar, recognition schemes and awards.
  • Lead Work Buzz survey participation and the resulting action plan and run team meetings.

Job Description

Employee Relations & Reporting

  • Manage absence monitoring and return-to-work interviews.
  • Support the disciplinary process.
  • Carry out exit interviews and act on lessons learnt.
  • Report monthly on retention, absence, timekeeping and recruitment activity, and recommend improvements.

Community Engagement

  • Represent the organisation at local recruitment and community events.
  • Build relationships with local schools, colleges, businesses and community groups to promote careers in care.
  • Support recruitment marketing and employer branding activities.
  • Develop partnerships that enhance carer recognition, wellbeing and recruitment opportunities.

Key Performance Indicators

  • 12-month and 90-day carer retention rates
  • Reduction in turnover and early leavers during probation
  • Time to hire and vacancy fill rate
  • Compliance file completeness (DBS, references, right to work)
  • Training and eLearning completion rates
  • Carer engagement survey results

  • Experience within domiciliary or home care.
  • Experience of recruitment, onboarding and pre-employment compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching and organisational skills.
  • Good understanding of CQC regulations.
  • Confident use of care management systems, eLearning platforms and Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK driving license and ability to travel across the Isle of Wight.

Desirable

  • Hold or be working towards an NVQ Level 5 in Health & Social Care.
  • Experience in employee engagement, HR or retention.
  • Coaching or mentoring qualification.
  • Experience of absence management and disciplinary processes.

Within the first 12 months, the successful Recruitment & Retention Manager will have improved carer retention, reduced early turnover during probation, embedded a structured first 12-week onboarding programme, introduced meaningful recognition and reward initiatives, and strengthened continuity of care for clients through a stable, motivated workforce.
