The Role
The Employee Relations Manager will provide confident, commercially focused and risk-aware ER leadership across the business, while leading a team of People Advisors. This is a hands-on role and is not suited to someone who wants to step away from casework. It requires a credible ER specialist who understands the business model, reads the commercial environment, anticipates where people risk and operational pressure intersect, and enjoys being close to complex and high-volume case activity. The role will support managers and senior stakeholders across the UK and Ireland with complex employee relations matters, ensuring cases are handled consistently, proportionately and in line with applicable legal requirements, policy and the organisation’s wider operating model. The postholder will help protect the business from avoidable risk while enabling fair, pragmatic and timely outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
