You'll partner with leaders across the Firm to find practical solutions to difficult situations, balancing legal risk, commercial priorities and the employee experience. The role is based in Bristol or Exeter, with occasional travel to our other offices.

Why Michelmores?

Overview of the role

As the Employee Relations Specialist you will provide expert advice and support on employee relations matters across the Firm and will work closely with HR Business Partners and Advisors to lead on complex cases and investigations, develop policy, and support compliance with employment law.

Day-to-day

You will be the Firm's subject matter expert on employee relations, providing trusted advice on complex and sensitive matters. We will want you to:

  • Lead a wide range of employee relations cases from initial assessment through to resolution, including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence, workplace conduct and flexible working matters.
  • Provide commercially focused and legally sound advice to leaders, helping them manage risk while reaching fair and consistent outcomes.
  • Conduct and oversee investigations into complex employee matters.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and Advisors to share expertise, build capability and strengthen manager confidence.
  • Develop and refine policies, guidance and processes, ensuring they remain practical, compliant and fit for purpose.
  • Monitor employee relations trends and data, identifying opportunities to improve processes, mitigate risk and enhance the employee experience.
  • Keep pace with employment law developments, translating them into clear and actionable guidance for the business.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
