Employee Relations Specialist, York
6-month FTC (possibility of going permanent)
1 day per week office-based
£45,000 - £55,000 per annum
We’re supporting a leading financial services organisation in York with the appointment of an Employee Relations Specialist on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for the role to become permanent.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ER professional who enjoys working closely with managers, providing expert advice and coaching, and wants to take on greater responsibility and influence.
The role
As Employee Relations Specialist, you’ll provide specialist advice and guidance to managers across a broad range of employee relations matters.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Providing expert advice on complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, absence, and conduct matters.
- Coaching and guiding managers through ER processes, helping them to confidently manage people issues.
- Advising managers on appropriate actions, ensuring consistency, fairness, and adherence to company policy and employment legislation.
- Supporting managers with difficult conversations and sensitive employee situations.
- Managing ER cases through to resolution, ensuring appropriate documentation and case management.
- Providing constructive challenge to managers where required and helping them identify practical solutions.
- Identifying potential employee relations risks and escalating complex or high-risk matters appropriately.
- Keeping up to date with employment legislation and best practice.
- Supporting wider HR initiatives and projects where required.

About you
We’re particularly keen to hear from Employee Relations Advisors or ER Specialists who are ready for a step up and want the opportunity to take on a more senior specialist role.

You’ll ideally have:
- Strong experience managing employee relations cases from start to finish.
- Excellent knowledge of UK employment legislation and ER best practice.
- Proven experience coaching and advising managers.
- The confidence to handle complex, sensitive, and sometimes challenging situations.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience within financial services or another regulated environment would be advantageous.
- CIPD qualification or equivalent experience would be desirable.
This is a hybrid role outside of York offering £45,000 - £55,000 per annum. Initially for a 6-month FTC.
