I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications
About you
You will be a confident relationship builder who enjoys opening doors, asking good questions and turning conversations into action. You may come from employer engagement, recruitment, business development, account management, sales or another target-driven environment where success depends on influence, pace and follow-through. You will bring commercial confidence without losing sight of quality. Securing vacancies matters, but the right vacancies matter more, so you will balance employer needs with the strengths, ambitions and circumstances of young people. You will be comfortable working to targets, managing a pipeline, prioritising the right conversations and adapting your approach when activity is not converting. Strong communication skills are essential. You will engage employers at different levels, explain the programme clearly and challenge constructively where an opportunity does not meet the right standard. This is not a youth-work role, but you will meet participants through matching, recruitment and onboarding, so empathy, respect and belief in young people’s potential are important. If you can build employer confidence, create high-quality opportunities and help young people take an important step into work, we would like to hear from you.
