Experienced Employment Senior Associate or Legal Director
A leading UK commercial law firm is seeking an experienced Employment Senior Associate or Legal Director to join its nationally recognised Employment, Pensions and Immigration practice. The role may be based in Birmingham, Bristol or Leeds and offers a highly flexible hybrid working model.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing, collaborative team advising major employers across the private and public sectors. The successful lawyer will handle high-quality contentious and non-contentious employment work, with a particular focus on higher and further education, regulatory bodies and financial services, alongside opportunities across other key markets.
The Role
- Manage a varied caseload of complex employment matters, including Employment Tribunal litigation.
- Advise on employee relations, disciplinary, grievance and capability processes, equalities obligations, senior exits and settlement negotiations.
- Support restructures, redundancies, TUPE matters, transactional due diligence and the employment aspects of commercial agreements.
- Draft and review employment contracts, policies and procedures.
- Work closely with partners and colleagues across a national, multidisciplinary practice.
- Supervise junior lawyers and contribute to client training, relationship management and business development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
