Croydon (Hybrid - 4 Days Home Working / 1 Day Office)

At Markel Law, we're looking for an Employment Law Solicitor to join our Corporate Services Employment Advice Team. This is an opportunity to advise a portfolio of well-known corporate clients on a broad range of complex employment law matters while enjoying the work-life balance and flexibility often missing from traditional private practice roles.

You'll become part of a highly experienced and collaborative team, providing practical, commercially focused advice to senior stakeholders including HR professionals, Directors, and Managing Directors across a diverse range of sectors.

About the Team:

Our Corporate Services Employment Law Team supports a range of larger employers, including:

  • Retail organisations
  • Airports
  • Professional services firms
  • Local authorities
  • Accountancy practices
  • Legal firms
  • Other corporate businesses

You'll work alongside a team of experienced employment lawyers who regularly share knowledge, legal developments, and best practice. The team has a strong reputation for delivering practical, commercially focused advice that helps clients make informed business decisions.

What You'll Be Doing:

You'll provide high-quality employment law advice via telephone and email across a broad range of workplace matters, including:

  • Disciplinary and grievance issues
  • Gross misconduct
  • Whistleblowing
  • Redundancy exercises
  • TUPE
  • Trade union and industrial relations matters
  • Employment Rights Act developments
  • Gender pay gap reporting
  • Employment contracts and workplace policies
  • General employment law compliance

You'll also:

  • Build trusted relationships with clients and senior stakeholders
  • Review employment documentation and case paperwork
  • Draft clear, practical and legally accurate written advice
  • Manage your workload in line with agreed service levels
  • Keep up to date with employment law developments and legislative changes
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Markel Law

What We're Looking For:

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in a UK jurisdiction
  • Employment law experience gained in private practice, in-house, advisory, or during a training contract seat
  • Strong employment law knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain legal concepts clearly and commercially
  • Strong customer service approach
  • Confidence advising clients by telephone and email
  • Strong drafting and document review skills

Desirable

  • Previous employment advice line experience
  • Experience supporting HR professionals and senior stakeholders
  • Experience advising larger corporate organisations
  • Public sector employment law experience

Working Pattern:

This is a full-time permanent position. Typical shifts include:

  • 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • 9:00am - 5:30pm
  • 10:00am - 6:30pm

You'll work primarily from home, attending our Croydon office one day per week (currently Wednesdays).
